Verdunk

Stan Olthuis is a Canadian artist of Dutch descent who creates contemporary drawings, paintings and sculptures loaded with energetic presence. An Ontario College of Art graduate Stan has a broad range of disciplines. He exhibits extensively through galleries and by invitation and is grateful to be collected and commissioned in numerous countries.

Stan opened VERDUNK in 2023 as a portal for his intriguing brand of sensual objects that thrive in a minimalist environment. With his latest work, and specifically the VERDUNK collection, he has leaned stylistically close to brutalist design as he manipulates rough, natural materials to celebrate their textural surfaces and intrinsic raw beauty through simple form. His creative process for these pieces involves shaping wood and a transforming treatment with fire.

Stan loves travelling from his home base in Canada to experience and live within local cultures elsewhere. The most recent was a 3-year residency in Mexico. It was filled with valuable life experiences that enriched his perspective and process.

He creates every day with an open mind to new possibilities.
